Fresh Starts and New Jobs

All of a sudden, life has gotten very busy! When Chris and I moved “back to the country” last fall, one of my goals was to take that Master’s degree I worked so hard for and start working with kids full-time again. After several months of dutifully substitute teaching and networking with everyone I met around the local schools, I am having a break-through month, and I have two new jobs!

Though it is not a permanent position, I am very excited to be stepping in as a grade 4/5 teacher (maternity leave) at New Suncook, in Lovell, Maine. I’ve had a chance to start acclimating to this role as an ed-tech at the school for about a month, and thankfully I will know kids’ names and habits before I officially begin. Right now, I’m excitedly beginning to get together lessons for the Civil War, our upcoming theme! After several years of working towards a full-time teaching position, I am SO excited for a real opportunity to get my feet wet, and I just love the age group I get to work with.

Not to be satisfied with one new job at a time, I also just accepted a position as the director of the local school summer program– the Pequawket Kids Association (PKA). With my own awesome camp background, I can’t wait to share some of my favorite aspects of camping with a group of kids who don’t always get camp-like opportunities. I will have a large amount of flexibility to plan the curriculum for 5 weeks of day camp, and my mind is already swimming with ideas about team-building, outdoor exploration, and other fun 🙂 Any ideas to add?

SO– life is pretty exciting at the moment!! After a lot of hard prep work and patient waiting time, I could not be more excited to be embarking on some great new projects with kids!
